First Steps

Bringing on a new designer can feel a bit like asking someone to decorate a house while you are still pouring the foundation and throwing a dinner party in the backyard. It’s chaotic, but there’s heart, and we’re glad you’re here to help make sense of the blueprints we sketched on napkins.

The Designer shall depending on project requirements provide some or all of the following services to the Client in accordance with the terms and conditions of this Agreement: (e-mail/phone calls, etc.) regarding the activities below are included as part of defined “services” payable by the client.

Complimentary Phone Consultation

This is where the broad strokes for the project are laid out. What are you thinking? Am I the right one for this job? Let’s figure it out.

Conceptual Design Consultation

This includes onboarding and preliminary design concepts, and in-depth discussion to ascertain style options, budget and time frame estimates and other project needs.

Design Development / Presentation

Finalize and present design options/ recommendations and requirements. How long is this going to take? Are we within scope for the initial design concept. What else is needed to complete this work?

E-mail updates and Project Check Points

Keeping the client informed and making decisions at check points are essential to make sure everyone is onboard with the results throughout the production pipeline.

ABOUT ME

I’ve been designing professionally for over 15 years and have been fortunate to work with everyone from startups and Fortune 500 companies to universities and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The thing I enjoy most about this career is that every project is different. Some clients know exactly what they need. Others have an idea but need help shaping it into something clear and engaging. That’s where I do my best work, asking questions, understanding the problem, and building a creative solution that fits the project instead of forcing a one-size-fits-all approach.

Outside of client work, I teach animation and design at the university level. Teaching has made me a better communicator, collaborator, and creative leader, and I bring that same mindset into every project I take on.

When I’m not designing, you’ll usually find me running, climbing, traveling, or exploring somewhere new. If you have a project you’d like to discuss, I’d love to hear about it.

INTERVIEW / BOLD JOURNEY

If you’d like to know more about my creative process, here is a link to an interview I did with Voyage Magazine.

BRINGING ON A NEW CREATIVE CAN BE HARD

Here is the first part of a 3 part series I did talking about what the initial onboard steps look like for me when taking on a new client for the all important first meeting.

Whether you’re looking for a full-time creative leader, a contract designer, or a strategic creative partner for a specific initiative, I’d love to hear about your project.
